Today mostly every college and university asks for recommendation letters along with the university/college admission application. A letter of recommendation is a letter from someone qualified to attest to your academic ability and your potential to succeed in higher education. Letter of recommendation plays a vital role, as it tells those facts about the applicants that the application letter cannot. Application letter only conveys factual information about the applicants like grades scored, family background etc.

Keep in mind some points when securing your recommendation letters-
-Ask for recommendations from teachers, employers, school administration etc who know your working style.
-Ask for the letter by meeting him/her personally not through email.
- Ask for the letter a number of days before its due date.
-Please tell the recommender for what purpose the letter is needed.
-Ask him/her to include the specific things you like to mention in the letter.
-Don’t ask any body to lie.
-Keep some photocopies of the letter as it can be used again in future when needed.
-Try to secure the letter as soon as possible and that too as many as possible.
-If the person whom you ask for the letter asks you to write the letter that he/she will later modify and sign it then don’t be surprised. This is a common practice.
-Please send a thanking note afterwards.
Your chances of getting good letters of recommendation will increase if you follow these general guidelines and you will definitely achieve your goal.
